Product Development HistoryGrowing up in Vietnam in younger years, the only fitness trainings that I ever involved with were Fighting Martial Art and Callisthenic Exercises (for improving my fighting skill). Weight lifting / Body Building was very much a rare practice in a society where a tanned and solid body was often associated with outdoor laborer class. Few years after moving to U.S., while enrolling in college for my Engineering degree, I had an opportunity to do extensive study & research on Human Physiology and its Application on Physical Fitness Training; and it was my favorite subject. Consequentially, I started weight training beside practicing & teaching Martial Art, and applied my engineering skill into inventing/designing Fitness Training Equipments and earned three Patents: US Patent 4822036 US Patent 4750738 US Patent 4751440 After graduation with advanced degree in engineering (with minor in Exercise Physiology), while working for IBM, I and a few coworkers from IBM developed a new line of computerized strength training equipment based on my patents. Eventually, We opened a small fitness club in Boulder, Colorado, called NEXT CONCEPT FITNESS, featuring our newly developed High-Tech Fitness Machines. However, working for IBM in highly competitive High-Tech business while running the fitness club became overwhelming, I decided to focus on IBM career.
