The end of the war, an influx of Vietnamese refugees headed to Santa Ana (CA), Bay Area (CA) and other cities in U.S. and formed pockets of concentrated Vietnamese population called Viet Nam Towns, and some of these refugees opened restaurants to make ends meet. Now, they are the second largest Southeast-Asian group, after Chinese.
You can cruise your own yellow pages to find good Vietnamese restaurants. A couple of clues: a concentration of noodle shops or Banh cuon (very popular with Vietnameses but not with Americans) in any one area like Little Saigon in LA, Dorchester in Boston or Argyle Street in Chicago is a pretty good indicator of a large Vietnamese population -- and, hopefully, a sign of food quality and authenticity. If the Vietnamese restaurants in your city are principally soup places, you likely have a large North Vietnamese population -- as in Los Angeles Little Saigon and in San Jose, California. (Vietnam Towns in America)

You can try these dishes at local Vietnamese restaurants in your area. Since most of the really authentic ones are the kind of "MOM & POP" joints, run by family and tailored to local Vietnamese community, don't expect a great ambience, but look forward to a delightful culinary adventure. Some places only accept cash and the waiters can rarely speak English, the service is far from elegant but friendly.

Most of Vietnamese restaurants Names contain major Viet Nam cities/land marks (such as Saigon, Hanoi,....), or their specialties (such as Bun, Com Tam,....)

Review of Search Engines Results on the Vietnamese Restaurant Searches

I find that Google Maps Local Business Search is the best, but you have to do a little bit of sorting and filtering yourself; Verizon Directory is adequate, and the rest just hits & misses

It provides a lot more information, including listing and reviews; however, sometime you need to massage the search, and filter out the irrelevant. If you are willing to spend sometime, the final result is very satisfactory. It has a great capability to understand Vietnamese words, which contribute to good search results.
You need to explore all the categories listed as the result of the search based on your key words, and enter & read the Business Profile section to get most of necessary information. It has a great capability to understand Vietnamese words, which contribute to good search results.
I found that the listing is good & sufficient, the search result is narrower than Google, but you don't have to sort through the listing so much. It does provide review and rating.
I found that it is insufficient. The result is incomplete. It cannot even recognize "PHO".
AOL City Guide I found that it is insufficient. The result is incomplete. It cannot even recognize "PHO"
It comes closer, but not completed.

Lee's Sandwiches www.leesandwiches.com is a highly-successful American fast food restaurant chain specializing in Vietnamese cuisine. While originally famous for selling banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), the chain has expanded its offering to many other goods, including packaged spring rolls, desserts, and other food to go items. It has many different banh mi and smoothy. Although it's traditional Vietnamese sandwiches, the main outside bread is baguette

Kim Sơn  http://www.kimson.com/ is a family owned chain of restaurants in Houston, Texas that serves both Vietnamese cuisine and Chinese cuisine.

Pho Hoa www.phohoa.com When a tiny Vietnamese restaurant serving only noodle soup opened in San Jose, California, in 1983, its customer base was as focused as its menu. Company leaders had little advertising budget and were uncertain of success. But word traveled quickly in the Vietnamese community of the tasty noodle soup-a traditional Vietnamese dish called pho (pronounced fuh). The soup is considered soothing; a dish that brings harmony to the body. Hoa (pronounced huh-ah´) means "harmony" in Vietnamese, and thus the owners named their restaurant Pho Hoa.

Just over 20 years later, Pho Hoa is the largest Vietnamese restaurant chain in North America with a customer base that extends well beyond Vietnamese diners. "The first restaurant was just a mom and pop store," says Trang Huynh, marketing and franchise manager. "The chain really started to grow in 1990 as other Asian groups-Koreans, Philippinos, and Chinese-were introduced to pho. Then came the Hispanics and Caucasians. We see huge potential in those segments."

Pho 79 http://www.pho79.com/ The portions are large, the food is good, and the prices are more than reasonable. Don't expect much in the way of ambience. This is an unpretentious neighborhood restaurant with nice, but distant staff.

Pho 88 http://www.pho88online.com/ providing a variety of Fine Asian Cuisine and Delicacies, Steak, ...
