In
a small, heavy saucepan, heat sugar without stirring.

Let
sugar melt to a brown liquid.

Continue
to heat until the sugar thickens.

Stir
in the water and simmer until liquid thickens and forms a string when
it is lifted with a spoon.

Add
butter and stir until the butter melts.

Pour
in peanuts and stir to blend well. Brush a 23 cm square pan with
butter and pour in he peanut mixture.

Set
the mixture aside until it hardens, about 10 minutes.

Break
into pieces and serve in bowls or wrap in colored cellophane.
